Review: Finally got around to putting my Injen CAI on after getting my tonsils out. Im going to start this blog out with the positives of the install. The Injen CAI looks awesome. I decided on the black piping. The horsepower difference with a Hondata calibration should have given me around 19HP. I noticed a increase in acceleration and torque, but more so the engine just breathing better. The noise is amazing after 4500rpm and makes you want to punch it every time. Well done with those aspects Injen. Now Im going to go into the negatives.
Advice/Opinions: I heard some people say this was a difficult install, but I figured its probably just time consuming.....well I wasnt completly right. First of all screw Honda and their stupid ass punch screws that held the bumper on. Lets put 24 push screws in a bumper and then attach every skid plate on the vehicle to it.....great idea!(sarcasm) It was by far the most aggravating thing to fight with on a vehicle. I understand that you need to hold everything together, but come on use real bolts. My next bitch is Honda's intake. The stock Si's intake sounds good but do you really need 2 resonating boxes and, no joke, 3ft of tubing......no. From now on when you develop a car, let someone tear it apart and put it back together. Im sure their opinions will make all of our lives easier.
Now im done ripping on Honda for their stupidity, Injen your next. I will say that the intake is made really well. Solid product without a doubt. BUT and its a very large but, why do companies need to make products that barley fit an application. I struggled for hours to get the intake on while completely destroying the paint job on it. Injen requires you to cut away the mud guard, ok fine. Even after you cut it away it still is a royal bitch to get it through. Also the mounting bracket requires you to push the intake piping from the bottom up. Make a bracket that is detachable, add some piping on so its not a hard fit, and for the love of god why the hell would you make a round pipe to fit through a 2 inch rectangular whole. If Injen would have put a little more time in, they could have made the last bit of piping rectangular with the same volume and you wouldn't have had to cut the mud guard away nearly as much.*ADVICE EVERYONE*- Cover up that hole with duct tape or a piece of rubber. Because for those of us that don't live in Hawaii, we have this thing called ice and snow. It will destroy this intake otherwise or water lock your engine. Now Im done ranting.
My last two cents on this. If you ever slightly maybe think your going to do forced induction, just buy a short ram with a heat shield. After installing it though, I am glad that I got it because it really gave me some power and a lot of noise. Just wish the install wasnt miserable.
This is the part where I usually upload photos, right? I will post some, but I got so freaking pissed after about an hour into the install I said screw it. Here is the link to the install guide if your really curious(http://www.injen.com/galleries/products/SP1578_05222009.pdf)
