Hondata Flash Pro finally got here after traveling to every city on the east coast...thanks UPS....Unboxed the unit to find software and the programmer itself, pretty simple.
Install: I fished the wiring to the OBD-II port behind the dash from the flashpro. I decided to place the unit and the netbook in the glove compartment. Did the same for the netbook power wire to the center console. Powered up the netbook, connected USB cable, and started the software. That was the very very simple part of the flashpro. The software requires you to register and lock the flashpro to your car. Now the reprogramming.
ECU Reprograming: To reprogram the ECU was pretty simple. I uploaded the stock ecu settings first to the car's ecu to insure everything was working. I made a heads up display to monitor some things and then datalogged a normal drive with my car. Everything seemed in check so I changed my calibration to the "Stock Tuned" but made some of my own modifications.
I changed the vtec window from 5800rpm to 4500rpm and set launch control at 3200 with a 200rpm recover. Rev-limiter was upped to 8600rpm from 8200rpm with a 200rpm recover, max recommended by Hondata is 9200. I went for a drive on these settings and data logged the run. No issues were found and there was a significant increase in torque and power. I wasn't a fan of the vtec engagement though.
I changed the window to 5000rpm and reflashed. I went for another drive and found that the engagement was much better. The power band of the K20 hits around 5500 so it gives the car more of a feel of pull. After driving for a good amount of time, I stopped the car and went for a run to 8500rpm in 2nd and 3rd. The K20 really screams and does it with little hesitation to 8500rpm. With the changes to the vtec window any shift above 6500rpm ensures a transition into vtec from the last gear(major flaw with stock settings in an Si). As more changes are made to my car, this little computer is going to really be helpful.
Impressions: The Flashpro should be the first buy of anyone looking to do mods on their car. The limitations of the programmer is nearly endless. It also doubles as a live gauge display of practically any sensor that the car can check actively with a small lcd and netbook. It also comes with many built calibrations for combinations of aftermarket parts.
Upload some pictures later.
